The Islamic State struggles to expand into central Mali, Burkina Faso and Benin, consolidating core areas instead. Facing resistance from JNIM, the group progresses eastwards in Niger, and in Nigeria (Kebbi, Sokoto). Islamic State militants are continuing their eastward expansion, notably into Tahoua and Dosso regions, and into northwestern Nigeria (Kebbi, Sokoto).
The group remains highly active in the Gao and Ménaka regions, but failed to significantly expand towards central Mali. It appears, instead, to be consolidating the areas under its control.
JNIM pursues its expansion westwards near 🇸🇳 #Senegal’s border, and towards the coastal states (🇧🇯 #Benin, 🇹🇬 #Togo). What were once localised hotspots are now becoming stretches of territory.
