Niger: Regional monitoring map (11 August 2023) [updated]

๐Ÿšฉ More details about the ECOWAS standby force are emerging. RFI reports it will be constituted of 25.000 troops, with most coming from ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Nigeria.

๐Ÿ”น๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฎ Cรดte d’Ivoire announced it will commit up to 1100 troops.

๐Ÿ”น RFI reports that ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ผ Guinea-Bissau would also participate to the force.

๐Ÿ”น ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The African Union, France, and the US all announced backing the ECOWAS decisions.

๐Ÿ”น ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ซ Burkina Faso suspended Radio Omega, a popular radio, after it aired the interview of a pro-Bazoum supporter.

๐Ÿ”น The security around Bazoum’s residence was reportedly heightened on Aug 9, with 70 guards now stationed in the vicinity.

UPDATE: I updated the map to remove a claim that France would “study any request for military support from the ECOWAS”. This was an assertation originally made by Le Point, which has since then been removed.
